Sophie & Joe

the quality of being graceful and stylish in appearance or manner.
"a slender woman with grace and elegance"

According to the Oxford Dictionary’s (2022) definition of ‘elegance’, one can easily argue that Bride Sophie is the epitome of elegance. Sophie and Joe share their beautiful wedding with Isle Weddings, demonstrating how they carried the theme of 'simple and elegant' throughout all aspects of their special day.

Naturally, the newlywed’s story begins with their first meeting. “Joe and I first met in kindergarten at the sweet age of 5. After grade 2, we went our separate ways as Joe left for another school. Then, about 8 years later, we reconnected through social media and started talking… a lot.

We called it official in May 2013, and in August 2020, Joe proposed on the beach at Honeymoon Bay in Freycinet National Park, Tasmania. My first reaction was disbelief, and the second was excitement and joy! The proposal was perfect in every way, although I admit that I may have forgotten what Joe said in the lead up to popping the question”, explains Sophie.

“Our wedding planning took about 12 months, and I was doing things right until the week before the big day. We opted for the wedding to be simple yet elegant with minimal styling”.

The couple chose Stefano Lubiana Wines for the venue, based in Granton, Tasmania. “It overlooks the Derwent River and has beautiful vines perfect for photos. Osteria Vista was the reception venue and conveniently located at Stefano Lubiana Wines. It has a Mediterranean vibe and was very warm and welcoming”, said the couple.

When it came to picking a dress, I tried on so many before finding the one I chose. I only knew it was the one because, looking at photos, it was the only dress I was smiling in.

I found my dress at Timeless Elegance in Launceston, so it required a few trips from Hobart for fittings and whatnot. Zavana Bridal made the dress itself and had exquisite beading detail”, said Sophie.

“Much of the decor was DIY, as I wanted to stick to a budget. I purchased fake flowers from Just Fake It Bouquets (in NSW). This decision saved us so much money. We also purchased real Baby’s Breath for the table settings from Harmony Garden Centre and sourced eucalyptus clippings from the backyard of my bridesmaid's family home”, said Sophie.

“We chose Jess Oakenfull for photography and Richie from Folktale Films as our videographer. They worked amazingly together and produced stunning images”.

“We used a live band called Detour, who played as an acoustic duo for our ceremony (my aisle song was a Ben Folds cover, The Luckiest) and then again as a full band of 4 following the reception. It made a massive difference to the whole event having a live band. It turned into the biggest and best party we have ever thrown”, explained the couple.

As fate would have it, things don't always go as planned on the actual day. “It was a warm day to get ready, and about an hour before I was due to leave home, it poured with rain, so we had to move the ceremony inside. Regardless, everything worked out perfectly”, said Sophie.

When reflecting on memorable moments from the day, Sophie adds, “My favourite part of the day was definitely the travelling to the venue, all the moments between and, walking to the aisle”. As for Joe's favourite moments, “I loved every minute of the ceremony. Also, the first dance would be up there 100%. That moment of us being alone was super special. I’d almost say that took the cake.”
